When the potassium fluoride or potassium carbonate was added to the tert - butanol - water system, the water - enriched phase and the t - butanol - rich phase were produced. The results showed that when the concentration of potassium fluoride or potassium carbonate in the aqueous phase was higher, the t-butanol-rich phase produced in the aqueous phase contained negligible salt and water enriched. In the phase, the tert-butanol is negligible, so the tert-butanol-water system can be successfully separated with potassium fluoride or potassium carbonate. The Pitzer equation is used to calculate the activity of water in the water-rich phase and calculated using the Wilson, NRTL or UNIQUAC equation. The results show that the calculated values are in good agreement with the experimental data.
