The kaolin supported potassium fluoride(KF) solid base catalyst was prepared by impregnation method using kaolin as the carrier, and the transesterification of methyl laurate (ML) with ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (EGME) was used to prepare ethylene glycol monomethyl ether laurate ( EGMEML). The effects of different potassium fluoride loading catalysts, alcohol molar ratio, reaction time and reaction temperature on the yield of EGMEML were investigated. The structure of the catalyst was characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR, CO2-TPD and N2 adsorption-desorption. The results show that K3AlF6 crystal phase appears in KF supported kaolin solid base catalyst, and with the increase of KF loading, the alkali content is obviously increased and the catalytic activity is improved obviously. The experimental results show that the catalyst exhibits good performance under the condition that the amount of catalyst is 4.5% (w) (based on EGME), n (EOME): n (ML) = 3.0, reaction time: 6h, reaction temperature 120 ℃. The yield of EGMEML was 92.0%. When the KF loading was 15% (W), the catalytic activity was the strongest. The high activity of the catalyst may be related to the K3AlF6 produced by potassium fluoride and kaolin, and the catalyst will remain highly active and stable after repeated use.
