The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a highly polymerizable hexafluoropropylene oxide homopolymer by reacting a hexafluoropropylene oxide in an organic solvent and in the presence of potassium fluoride and crown ether in the presence of ring-opening polymerization. To produce a hexafluoropropylene oxide homopolymer, wherein the organic solvent is a mixed solvent of an anhydrous polar fluorine-free aprotic organic solvent and an anhydrous fluorine-containing aprotic organic solvent, and the amount of the potassium fluoride added is 0.01% to 10% by weight of hexafluoropropylene oxide, and the crown ether is added in an amount of 0.1% to 10% of the amount of potassium fluoride added. The process of the invention is simpler and easier to operate and the cost is greatly reduced, and the number average molecular weight of the obtained hexafluoropropylene oxide homopolymer can reach more than 3000.
